Gratitude During the Good and Bad Times

Good morning! We have so much to discuss now that it has been a month since I recapped the Chicago Marathon. Life is certainly different now that my workouts don’t take up the majority of my time. Actually, life has changed in many ways since I last spoke with all of you.

The election results literally made me cry 3 (or more) times on Wednesday morning. The results lead me to view 50% of the people in our country in a really negative way. A Trump presidency really scares me, but I’m going to try to remain positive. It’s only 4 years and the world will continue spinning far beyond that timeframe.

I was recently looking into my Dropbox account to some delete photos/make space for other things. Most of the photos saved on my Dropbox account were from 2014, which was the worst year of my life. I am not exaggerating. A series of unfortunate events occurred in 2014 that continue to negatively impact my life to this day. I will never be the same person after 2014 and the photos brought back so many memories. However, I have come out on the other side. I am happier right now than I ever have been in my life. I couldn’t possibly be more grateful for that 🙂

Ignore how full my inbox is…

Life is all about enjoying the good whenever we can because it’s not rainbows and butterflies every second of every day. I may have Trump as a president (and some people are happy for this, but I am not), but I have the privilege of enjoying other things. The most important of those things is that I’m now ENGAGED to Andy! You probably know that already if you follow my Instagram, but this is my official Mel’s Miles announcement.

We are so excited to finally tie the knot. Andy proposed to me on a weekend getaway in Lake Geneva, WI on October 22nd. I was sort of suspicious that it would happen that weekend, but only like 50% suspicious 😉 Now, we are hoping to have our wedding in early August 2017. We have a TON of planning to do between now and then, but I’m enjoying it so far!

Things have been so incredibly good (minus Trump winning the presidency). In my 28.5 years on this Earth, I’ve come to learn that life is full of different seasons. My 2014 was particularly awful, but I am all about 2016. Don’t get me wrong, the perfect year does not exist; I’m well aware of that. This year definitely comes close, for me, though. I can definitely get used to this season of my life, but I know better than to do that 😉

All I can do is enjoy the moment and look forward to seeing what will come next!
