Chicago Marathon Training 09/07 – 09/13

This post is going up pretty late, but it’s still (Workout) Wednesday. I was fortunate enough to enjoy another step-back week, which I truly needed before peak week. This weekend involves the big 20 miler! I’m pretty freaked out, but I feel ready. Well, I’ll be ready as soon as I go on a Gatorade and Gu run. A step-back week meant that I got to spend some time with Kelly The Dog (and my parents, haha), as mentioned in my last post. I also got to enjoy a leisurely trip to Target, legs that were actually not too sore after the long run, and had more energy in general on Sunday. I can’t even imagine what I’ll be like during taper time if I felt that good during a step-back week! IMG_3246.JPG

Last Week’s Workouts

Monday: 18 mile long run (actually part of the previous week, technically…)

Tuesday: Rest

Wednesday: 6.42 mile bike ride. Always proud of cross-training, even when it’s only a short workout. This one was around 30 minutes.

Thursday: 5 mile run

Friday: Ice skating with a friend. My thighs were BURNING, so I count this as more cross-training.

Saturday: Rest

Sunday: 14 mile long run. This went pretty well 🙂

I could obviously run more during the week still, but I am proud to say that I have not skipped a single long run during this training cycle. To me, that’s the most important part.

Here’s a running quote from Runner’s World that I enjoyed today:

Do you go nuts during taper time? – I remember being warned that I’d be super energized/irritable, but that never actually happened last time. We will see if that’s true in a week or two.

What is your favorite running quote?
