Life in September 2015

Good morning! It’s been too long since my last “life update” post. As I recently wrote, I still get confused about how much to share in this space. I continue to go back and forth about this issue, but today I feel that this is my blog and I’m in a sharing mood. Here’s what I’ve been up to lately! I watched my dad compete with Kelly the dog again. IMG_2631.JPG My dad competes with Kelly in agility. The location of this particular competition was literally down the street from my job, so I stopped by on Saturday. Kelly and my dad did great; she’s almost at the championship level, which is apparently the highest she can go. Andy and I are still working on unpacking from the move back in early August. We just finished building a dresser from IKEA, so I’m starting to work on putting all of my clothes in it. My clothes are still all in boxes on the floor. I’m very classy 😉 The only room that isn’t a hot mess in the apartment is our bathroom. I pretty much only enjoy cleaning/organizing bathrooms – they’re so small, which makes things easy. Ha!  IMG_3243.JPG For the first time in 3 years, I have real time off. I feel really lucky because my job has amazing work-life balance – I get 4 weeks of vacation and never work more than 40 hours in a week. Going from a part-time internship, part-time job, and grad school to this schedule is a dream. Working on Saturdays kind of blows, but I feel like I have so much more free time now. It still feels weird to me that I don’t have to do homework. I’m also finally getting back on track with my finances! Moving certainly put a dent in my savings account because I wasn’t working full-time yet, but now I’m doing much better. I came up with a plan to save a certain amount of money each month. Wahoo! I saw Brené Brown speak a couple weeks ago!!!! She really inspires me and it was so cool to see her in person. IMG_3215.JPG

Crummy photo, but it was the best I could do haha

Andy and I had such a great Labor Day weekend. I really mean it when I say that I’m just not used to real time off. It was awesome to go out of town and not worry about having an assignment due. I was able to enjoy my time in Milwaukee without thinking about other stuff! Seeing our friends is always such a joy, too. The older I get, the harder it is to coordinate schedules with friends. At least, that’s my experience. IMG_3233.JPG

I always enjoy a pre-wedding selfie because it’s the only time I do my hair/makeup

I’m meeting up with my internship supervisor for lunch in 2 weeks! He is such a wonderful person and I am so excited that we are keeping in contact 🙂 I just learned that putting butter on green beans makes them taste really good. Perhaps I’m late on this… green beans were always my most hated vegetable as a kid, but now I’m obsessed with them. Running is really hard, but really great. Marathon training is not easy, but I’m loving it. I can’t lie, the marathon is scaring me more than it is exciting me right now. Hopefully that will change after the 20 miler next week. The 18 miler was awful, which shook my confidence. I need that 20 miler to go well!
