On Sunday, Sara and I ran the Chicago 10k! Sara and I traveled to the race together from the burbs, which meant finding a parking spot that was cheap instead of taking the train. The Chicago 10k started at Grant Park! Thanks to Sara, we found a $10 parking spot through SpotHero (<-referral link! We both get a $5 credit if you sign up!!). I was SO IMPRESSED by that. Never again will I freak out about parking downtown for a race should I need to drive 😀 Now that I’m living in the suburbs, SpotHero will be especially useful. I felt great throughout the entire race. Perhaps I didn’t push myself as hard as I could have, but marathon training has made it difficult for me to work on speed when I’m already working on distance. The course traveled out and back from Grant Park to the Lakefront Trail. Out and back courses upset me sometimes because I get jealous of the people who are ahead of me, ha! However, I was racing for fun this time and just enjoyed the run 🙂 My pacer this time was a girl wearing a pink shirt. I enjoy choosing someone to keep up with during races. I was several feet behind her for the first 5 miles of the race, but I passed her after that and never saw her again! Pretty awesome! I didn’t take any pictures during the race because my phone is having some issues these days, but this was the medal for 2015: I officially finished the race in 1:00:05, which is 6 seconds slower than I would have liked… My Garmin time for the exact 10k distance was 58:59. Perhaps I’ll just go with that 😉 Either way, the Chicago 10k was WAY BETTER for me than the Ricky Byrdsong Race Against Hate 10k back in June. Overall, the Chicago 10k was well-organized, not too big, and had a fun post-race party. My complaints are that it was pretty expensive ($50!!), you had to pay extra for a tech shirt (I didn’t and got a cotton shirt), and there was absolutely no swag included at packet pickup. Other than those issues, the race was GREAT! Have you ever used SpotHero? Do you use other people as your pacers during races?
