I’m so sad that the holiday weekend is over! We had a blast here in Chicagoland. I was off on Friday through today (Monday), which has been a much needed time to recharge and get things done. Andy and I looked at 3 apartments on Friday and found one we really like. Cross your fingers that we get it! It’s in a super cute, new to us suburb that I just can’t wait to explore! I went through my dresser this morning in preparation for the upcoming move and got rid of an entire garbage bag of clothes. So proud. I have hoarding tendencies, so this is a huge accomplishment for me! What I really wanted to write about was my 4th of July experience at Arlington Park Race Track!! Andy encouraged me to wear my big hat, which I wore to the Kentucky Derby Party in May. I’m glad he did because it completed my outfit perfectly 😀 Gotta get as much use as possible out of my $8 hat.
Just me, Andy, and Summer Shandy
Andy, Kat, Oksana, Patrick (Oksana’s boyfriend), and I made the trek out to Arlington Heights around 5:00pm. If we ever go again, I’d definitely like to go earlier. We only got to watch 4 races. I gambled $2 on 3 of them and won $5 on the third race. So, I basically only lost $1. My gambling strategy was to bet on horse #4 each time because that’s my lucky number. Clearly I’m a professional gambler 😉
Family photo! Andy and Patrick were taking our picture at the same time, so that’s why we’re not looking in the same direction 😛
The fireworks show was pretty impressive, but something caught on fire during it. We found out the next day that it was the fireworks trailer. I loved that they had a different theme for each part of the show – one part was all about Chicago sports and ended with the Blackhawks’ theme song! It made me miss cheering them on during the Stanley Cup a few weeks ago!
Overall, we had an amazing time at Arlington Park. The weather was perfect, the company was top-notch, and winning feels so good – even just $5 when I gambled $6 total! HAHA.
Now it’s back to the grind. I’m looking forward to finding out about our new apartment, finalizing our trip to Minnesota for Rachel’s wedding at the end of the month, and moving forward with marathon training. BRING IT ON, WORLD.
What did you do for the 4th of July?
