For the first time in my life, I celebrated the Kentucky Derby! This is something I always wanted to do; mostly for the big hat 🙂 Andy and I sort of matched! Our friends, Anthony and Amy, hosted the party at their house in the burbs of Milwaukee. Those two know sure how to throw a party! We drank mimosas, mint juleps, and beer (obviously, it’s Wisconsin). There were games and snacks! And then there was the race. We each put in a dollar, picked a horse’s number out of a hat, and the winner took all. Gambling excites me more than it should (don’t worry, I rarely do it), so I got really into the race. My horse, number 18 (AKA American Pharaoh), WON!!!! This means I got $20. Such a proud moment in my life 😉 We also watched the big Mayweather/Pacquiao fight. I fell asleep during it, but woke up for the end. Ha! I was also reunited with Sara, who was away in California for 4 months and is now moving to DC for work. I no longer have my race buddy nearby 🙁 I guess this means I’ll need to make a trip out to DC for a race! Thank goodness I got to see her one last time before she jets off again. We didn’t take a pic together, though. Sad day. The good news is that I completed every single run on my 10k plan last week! Sunday after we drove home from Milwaukee, I laced up my Asics and ran 4 slow miles. My outfit was very green 🙂 It was amazing to go up to Milwaukee for the night. Andy and I used to go there all the time, but this year has been so busy for everyone. I hope to spend some more time in Milwaukee this summer! Do you celebrate Derby Day? What is your favorite state in the U.S.?
