Gratitude Friday: 2014 Edition!

Today’s post will be my final Gratitude Friday entry for 2014.  With Christmas on a Thursday next week, I don’t think I’ll get around to writing a post for that Friday. The holiday season is a busy time! To celebrate this year’s last Gratitude Friday (here’s the first one EVER, in case you’re interested 😉 ), I decided to write about some of the things I’m grateful for in 2014!

My Counseling Internship

The way I got my internship was actually pretty funny, but the details would probably not be appropriate to discuss online. Long story short, my internship is at an agency I had admired for years. I originally chose a different internship and was basically dropped from it in May. If you remember me freaking out/vague blogging, then that was what I was referring to, HA. After only a few phone calls and a second interview with my dream agency, I secured myself a new position. Both agencies gave me an offer in the first place, and the spot at my current internship was still available 1.5 months later. SO LUCKY.

I thought my world was coming to an end in May, but I ended up exactly where I’m supposed to be. My supervisor is the most amazing person who is always there to help me when I’m confused (which is pretty much all the time 😛 ), my clients are amazing, my other coworkers are amazing, I get an amazing office (with a comfy couch for clients!!)… it’s all just amazing. I can’t believe how lucky I am to be interning there. Everything worked out for the best.

My supervisor gave me a Christmas present with a thoughtful card about our work together so far. Seriously, I am #blessed with this internship 🙂

Running

Running and I didn’t get along very well for most of the year. We’re getting back into a nice groove, despite the freezing cold Chicago weather. I had a few successful/enjoyable/super cool races this year. My most memorable was the Rock n’ Sole Half Marathon in Milwaukee. I PRed, felt all the feelings, and made new friends. It was a pretty fabulous race.

rocknsoleMy first race of the year was the Shamrock Shuffle 8k with my Uncle Doug! It’s our tradition to run the Shamrock Shuffle and I’ve PRed every year.

I also ran my first Ragnar Relay from Madison to Chicago!!! It was such an amazing experience that I will never forget 🙂

Van 1 was the best van!

Friends/Family/Andy

The people in my life stood by me through this internship craziness, which is about to get even more intense next year. More importantly, some significant events happened that brought me closer to different people. My mom broke her back over the summer and is still in very poor health. I am not thankful for this, obviously, but it has helped me see the fragility of life. My parents are not going to be around forever. I cherish the time we get to spend together much more than I used to. I have a different perspective now, which is extraordinarily refreshing.

Andy and I are dealing with a temporary, but very sudden, long distance relationship. We did not expect to be living apart this year, but it happened and we are surviving better than I ever expected. I appreciate the time Andy and I have together so much more than I used to. Plus, I think putting our relationship to the test like this is healthy 🙂

Blogging

The last thing I want to mention is blogging. When I started this blog in January, I never thought I’d meet such cool people, get to host giveaways, and show my gratitude to the world every Friday. Thank you guys so much for reading about my random thoughts/adventures (and about my running endeavors sometimes). I can’t wait to share my marathon training journey with you in 2015!

What are you most grateful about at the end of 2014?

Do you have a New Year’s resolution?
