The Sunshine Award and a Giveaway Winner!

First of all, I’m happy to announce that the winner of the Hit and Run 5k giveaway is Megan from Meg Go Run! She has already been emailed 🙂 Thanks to everyone for participating.

My awesome cousin, Oksana of Othingsbeauty, nominated me for a Sunshine Award! sunshineaward The Rules Display the award logo to your blog (see above) Show appreciation by acknowledging the blogger who nominated you and link back to them in your post (see above) Share 7 random, interesting things about yourself Nominate up to 15 bloggers you admire and happily pass on this award, making sure to link their blog into your post Contact your chosen bloggers to let them know Seven Things About Me Trying to write different things than I did in this random facts post 1. I started to enjoy running my sophomore year of high school when my cousin dropped out of a 10k race.  I ran in his place and won first in the 14-year-old boys division.  The hour of running felt like an eternity, but I regularly ran from then on (mostly on treadmills at the gym). 2. Mel’s Miles is definitely not my first blog.  I had a Deadjournal in 8th or 9th grade and then had a Xanga for a couple years in high school (does anyone else remember Xanga?!?!).  My senior year of college was all about Tumblr. I’ve been reading running and healthy living blogs for years and finally wanted to start one of my own.  Mel’s Miles is only 6 months old, but this blog is one of the best parts of my life 🙂 3. I’m a vegetarian.  This is something I really don’t like to talk about for several reasons. A. people act like I have two heads or something whenever I mention it. B. I am thinking about eating meat again, but it stresses me out too much to actually do it. C. No one wants to invite me over for dinner because that means cooking something “different” D. I feel really pretentious mentioning it for some reason. E. People expect me to explain and justify my decision (or at least it feels that way)… for the record, my decision to not eat meat is because I think most meat is gross and I hate cooking it. 4.  I volunteer at a residential facility for people who have disabilities. My resident is a 46-year-old woman who I have developed such a close friendship with; we are two peas in a pod!  The two of us complete art projects together and have made a series of paintings that are based on different fairytales.  I will probably have to stop volunteering when I start my internship in the fall, which makes me incredibly sad 🙁 5. It bothers me that I have ended some sentences with prepositions in this post.  I overanalyze everything I write lately to the point where I think it makes me a worse writer. It all began when I took a required writing class in college. Is that normal? 6. I could watch Sex and the City over and over again and never get sick of it. In fact, I’m watching it while I type this post… 7.  Growing up, I was Molly Shannon‘s biggest fan. I had a fan website dedicated to her and even dressed as one of her characters for halloween one year. My first huge career goal was to be a comedienne, but that fell through when I went to an improv camp in 8th grade and learned that I had major stage fright.  I actually met Molly Shannon a few years ago at a book signing (as seen in my Gratitude Friday post from last week). She told Britta and me that we were FUNNY. MOLLY SHANNON THINKS I’M FUNNY. That’s all I need in life. Nominations I nominate all of you to answer any of the following questions: Have you ever met your celebrity role model? Where did you have your first blog? Do you do any volunteer work? Where? Which TV show or movie can you watch multiple times without getting bored of it?
